The Solution

Invisible technology,
visible results.

trailpulse captures how paths are used – without cameras, without an app, without visible technology. The data form the foundation for planning, advocacy and reporting.

Counting mat installed in the ground

The Counting Mat

Placed invisibly beneath the surface, the trailpulse mat precisely captures every movement – without altering the natural path.

trailpulse counting mat – flat sensor on a gravel path

Sensor Module

Flat mat with integrated sensors. 1 module = 1 metre of path width.

Installing the trailpulse counting mat in a forest floor

Self-Installation

Installed in minutes. No technician, no power connection required.

Invisible in Operation

Completely hidden after installation. No impact on the trail or its users.

What trailpulse measures

  • User type: Pedestrians and cyclists, recorded separately
  • Direction of travel: One or two directions
  • Temporal distribution: In 15-minute intervals
  • Group detection: Individual users vs. groups

What trailpulse deliberately does not collect:

No images, no personal data, no identification of individuals.

100% anonymous & GDPR-compliant

Two-Way Verification

Dual signal verification for maximum data quality – on the device and in the cloud.

1

On-Device Processing

The sensor processes vibration and pressure signals directly on-site. Initial classification (cyclist vs. pedestrian) happens in real time on the device – energy-efficient and independent of network connectivity.

2

Cloud Data Orchestration

Raw data is transmitted to the cloud, where it is aggregated, cleaned and enriched with context. This is where the second verification stage takes place – outliers are detected and plausibility checks are performed.

3

Machine Learning & Retroactive Application

ML models continuously learn from new signal patterns. New movement types (e.g. e-bikes, strollers) are detected and retroactively applied to historical data – improving past measurements after the fact.

Continuous Feedback Loop

Cloud insights flow back into the device firmware. On-device classification becomes more precise with every update. The result is a self-learning system that improves with every measurement – without manual intervention.

How it works

1

Install

Place the mat in the ground. Self-installation in minutes, no technician needed.

2

Measure

The sensor captures vibrations and pressure. Reliably distinguishes between cyclists and pedestrians.

3

Transmit

Data is sent to the cloud energy-efficiently. Hourly or in real time.

4

Analyse

Intelligent dashboard with filters, comparisons and automated reports.

Technical Details

Power Supply

Battery-powered, approx. 1.5–4 years of battery life. No mains connection required.

Data Transmission

Hourly or real-time to the cloud. Stored in Europe (GDPR-compliant).

Durability

IP68 waterproof. -20°C to +80°C. Withstands forestry operations.

Path Width

1 module = 1 metre. Up to 4 modules can be combined for wider paths.

For Every Surface

trailpulse is available in different variants – optimised for the respective use environment.

trailpulse trail – natural path through a rock tunnel
trailpulse dashboard – seasonal trend and daily pattern

The Dashboard

All measurement data flows into a clear dashboard – accessible from any browser, no additional software required.

  • Planning: Identify utilisation, prioritise maintenance
  • Advocacy: Usage data as an objective foundation
  • Reporting: Automated reports, comparisons, export
